CATALINA DREAMING

BOOK BY ROSS EWING

This book is primarily an aviation adventure story involving privately owned ex-military planes and a worldwide search for one in particular - an airworthy PBY-5A "Catalina" flying boat.

It a fascinating personal account of one man's passion for classic ex-military planes - he had been a military pilot in his younger days - and his dream of getting a Catalina to New Zealand and flying it and sharing it with the public, Catalinas being very much a part of New Zealand's aviation heritage.

CATALINA PBY-5a

FLYING BOAT VIDEO SCRAPBOOK

The Historical Aviation Film Unit Video Scrapbook Series is designed to provide high quality collections of aviation film clips.

These are not full documentary programs with running voice-over or narration. Rather they're a collection containing a variety of short film clips, generally between 2 to 15 minutes long, which provide scenes and sounds of the aircraft in action, the like of which are rarely contained in documentary videos or on broadcast television.

This disk features 135+ minutes of footage of ZK-PBY. Both PAL and NTSC formats are available.

THE FLYING CATALINA

CLASSIC COCKPITS DVD

You're flying in the left-hand seat of a PBY Catalina, probably the best-loved flying boat ever built. This is a PBY-5A, an amphibian, so you can operate on land or water, but right now, the radial engines are bringing her in and you're on short final for a landing on beautiful Lake Taupo, in New Zealand You slide over the marina at about 150 feet. The lake stretches ahead. One hand on the control wheel, the other on the throttles hanging from the cockpit roof. Landing a flying boat is different: you don't flare it on; you fly it on, at a very gentle rate of descent.....

PAL format only.
